Book Launch

Glad to be back.
It’s been much too long since I connected with you .That’s the bad

 news.

The good news is that in the meantime I have established my

website:

www.womenrworthy.com.  After acknowledging that I am in

desperate need of heeding the voice which kept yelling at me:

Social media, social media, I took the plunge and enrolled in a class.

I have now upgraded my knowledge of Facebook, have a Twitter

account , and am more confident as a Blogger. Yea!

Stop pretending that you were not once at that stage!!!

Now I am all set to use social media as an effective tool to market

my book which focuses on women’s ability to use challenges as

stepping stones to attain their goals.

Launch of my book will be on Sunday, October 28, 2012.

Book title is: Women Are Worthy: Why Perch Like a Chick When You Can Soar Like an Eagle?

Stay tuned!

Soaring Point:

MOTHER"S DAY 2012

Bouquets, roses, chocolate and sumptuous meals will be in  evidence everywhere as children  young and old prepare for Mother’s Day 2012.

In 1914 when Julia Howe and Ann Jarvis besieged President Wilson of the United States to designate the second Sunday of May to honour mothers, little did they know the effect that the concept would have throughout the world.Their unselfish act has enabled us to honour thewomen who have been the mainstay of our civilization.
As thoughts turn to mothers, step-mothers, adopted mothers and grandmothers it is also important to remember the many women who ,with none of their own , have willingly nurtured other people’s children as circumstances demanded.

Special thoughts and prayers must also go to those unsung women whose everyday reality is to single –handedly rear their children without the benefit of any father’s support. They are women of valour.

With our Sisters whose mothers have died I can understand the hollow feeling as others celebrate  because I too have lost three mothers  because my birth -mother and grand-mother ,who raised me from I was three years old ,passed on decades ago. As well my beloved step-mother died just a few years ago. However love of mothers now passed provides the solace  to  keep their memories alive.

For Mother’s Day 2012 I salute all mothers. have a blessed day.

You are worthy!

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY March 8, 2012

Thursday March 8, 2012 will mark the celebration of International Women’s Day which originated in the United States of America in 1911 and was  adapted in Canada in 1977.There will be world-wide celebrations to recognize, honour, celebrate and encourage the achievements of women from around the world .International Women’s Day came about in large part, from a lowering of barriers which had traditionally kept women as second-class citizens who were denied the right to vote, experience a good education , proper wages, or a part in the political or economic affairs of the country. Although some of those conditions have changed, as we peruse the news we can see that they still exist throughout the world, and even educated, materially rich, politically aware women are still subjected to a rigidly restrictive social code that places them at a disadvantage in every walk of life.
The media still uses a different yardstick to view women’s credibility whether they are Heads of State or rape victims; in some countries women are still prohibited from getting an education; babies are aborted if they are deemed to be female; various forms of violence against women are still rampart and shrouded under titles such as “honour killing” and “spousal abuse”. Some forms are not even acknowledged. Psychological /emotional abuse is given scant notice because there are no bruises or other visible signals to warrant genuine concern even though the debilitating effects are horrendous. On a daily basis girls and women of all ages are called derogatory names,  intimidated, isolated, threatened, subjected to silent treatment and denied recognition of their abilities and accomplishments. Much of this is done by boyfriends, siblings, parents and others who should be a source of support. Unlike physical abuse much of this takes place also in the workplace.
While there is no doubt that women have made genuine progress in many facets of their lives there still needs to be a concerted effort to focus on the areas that still prevent ultimate empowerment and well-being.
So as we acknowledge the strides which some women have made, there still needs to be  conversations regarding women’s  lives.
International Women’s Day 2012 can be the springboard for such a dialogue to continue.

Women and Sisterhood February 29,2012

Hello Everyone!
I am glad to be back after overcoming  a few headaches with my blog and other problems due to my technologically-challenged abilities.

I just finished reading some very interesting iinformation about the mind-body connection - the relationship between stress and disease. The Head of psychiatry at a leading American university stated that one of the best things a man can do for his health is to be married to a woman, whereas for a woman, one of the best things she can do for her health is to nurture her relationship with her girlfriends.
The reality is that women connect with each other diffferently and provide support systems that help each other to deal with stress and difficult life experiences. It seems as if quality "girlfriend time" helps us to create more serotonin- a neurotransmitter that helps combat depression and create a feeling of well-being.
Women share feelings whereas men form relationships based on certain activites . They rarely sit down with a buddy and talk about how they feel about cerrtain things or how their personal lives arre going. To quote, Jobs? Yes. Sports?Yes. Cars?Yes. Fishing, hunting, golf ? Yes. But their feelings? Rarely.
Women share from their souls is as enriching as jogging or working out at the gym.
The article concluded that failure to create and maintain quality personal relationships with other human beings is a detriment to good health.
What about planning a Girlfriend night this week-end? Great  idea as we approach International Women's Day on March 8,2012.
More about that in a few days

Women and Time Management

Henry David Thoreau, one of the great thinkers of the nineteenth century, once stated: It is not enough to be busy, so are the ants. What are we busy about?” From this you can deduce that Time Management is about getting control of your life while finding solutions to using time more effectively.

Women and Violence

Tomorrow December 6th marks the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women
On December 6, 1989 fourteen women were murdered in Montreal, Canada by a man who blamed women for all the misfortunes in his life .Twenty-two years later women world-wide are routinely subjected to personalized and institutionalized violence of varying forms and degrees.
