Bouquets, roses,
chocolate and sumptuous meals will be in evidence everywhere as children young and old
prepare for Mother’s Day 2012.
In 1914
when Julia Howe and Ann Jarvis besieged President Wilson of the United States
to designate the second Sunday of May to honour mothers, little did they know
the effect that the concept would have throughout the world.Their unselfish act has enabled us to honour thewomen who have been the mainstay of our civilization.
As thoughts turn
to mothers, step-mothers, adopted mothers and grandmothers it is also important
to remember the many women who ,with none of their own , have willingly
nurtured other people’s children as circumstances demanded.
Special
thoughts and prayers must also go to those unsung women whose everyday reality
is to single –handedly rear their children without the benefit of any father’s support. They are women of valour.
With our
Sisters whose mothers have died I can understand the hollow feeling as others
celebrate because I too have lost three mothers because my birth -mother and
grand-mother ,who raised me from I was three years old ,passed on decades ago. As well my beloved step-mother died just a few years ago. However love of mothers now passed provides the
solace to keep their memories alive.
For
Mother’s Day 2012 I salute all mothers. have a blessed day.
You are
worthy!
